Cheshire Whole Systems Strategic Modelling Project

Learning Disabilities

Go to the Model

This project has been run with participation and support from health, social care and the independent sector. Workshops were run in July and September and sought to address issues associated with the development of greater choice in living options together with the anticipated impact of the changing demographic of people with a learning difficulty, in particular the expectation of significantly increased numbers of older people with a learning difficulty.

The key question being addressed was agreed as:

In what ways must the market in housing and support services be reshaped to respond to the anticipated changes in expectations of people with a learning disability with more people wanting to live in individual tenancies and with needs being met by more individualised responses and packages of support ?

The workshop participants explored how they saw people's choices affecting capacity requirements in different living options. The picture below illustrates this and forms the basis of the modelling exercise. In addition the workshop participants explored the impact of such changes on support services. Consideration of these issues are reflected in the final report available opposite.
