Introduction

The model explores the impact of changes in underlying demographics and choices that will increasingly reflect people's desire to live more independently. It calculates outputs over a 20 year period so that both short and longer term planning horizons can be considered.

The model is presented here in 3 steps:

  1. A model run that indicates outputs for the baseline position, based on conservative estimates for demographics and the extent of independent living.

  2. Step 2 - an alternative scenario based on accelerated demographic change.

  3. Step 3 - allows for alternative assumptions to be used in determining model outputs.
