Cheshire Whole Systems Strategic Modelling Project

People with a physical or sensory impairment

Go to the Model

The project focussing on the needs of people with a physical or sensory impairment has been working with a challenging set of new national policy, particularly the NSF for long term neurological conditions and the Green paper on Adult Social Services. In addition it has been clear that the themes of choice, independence and partnership present a real opportunity to explore the development of a more balanced model of care given greater emphasis to the social model of disability. These are explored in the documents opposite.

The project group have developed a clearer understanding of priorities for the development of a social model of disability for this client group in the context of needing to support people through periods when their condition places a significant limitation on their ability to live independently. This balance of 'social' and 'specialist' support and the links to impairment and disability respectively forms the basis of the model developed to explore these issues.

Documentation from workshops is available opposite.
